How to create App Store Connect API Key

Creating an App Store Connect API Key might sound like a daunting task at first, but fear not – I’m here to guide you through it in the simplest way possible. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast diving into the world of app development or a seasoned developer looking for a hassle-free process, you’ve come to the right place. In this step-by-step guide, we’ll demystify the process and break down the technical jargon, making it easy for anyone to generate their own API Key. So, grab your virtual toolbox, and let’s embark on this journey together!

Let’s start from the beginning: log into your App Store Connect account and head over to the Users and Access section. From there, click on the Keys tab. Now, here’s the crucial part – on the left side, make sure you’ve selected the right Key Type, which is “App Store Connect API“. To generate your App Store API key, you need to request access first. The catch? You must be the Account Holder to send in this request. But hold on, if you’ve already tackled that step, just being an Admin will do the trick to create your key. It’s that straightforward!

If you haven’t done this before, don’t worry. Just click on the “Request Access” button, and you’re all set to roll.

During this process, you’ll need to provide some information. Here’s a crucial heads-up: once the API Key is generated, you can’t tweak it – only delete it. That’s why it’s absolutely vital to pick the right role based on how you plan to use the API Key. Let’s say, for the services we offer on, the API Key you create must be in the Admin role. Choose wisely!

Once you hit the “Generate” button, congratulations, your App Store Connect API Key is born! App Store Connect will assign you a unique ‘Issuer ID’ specific to your account, and mind you, it’s set in stone – it can’t be altered. Remember, this Issuer ID is your golden ticket and you’ve got to stick with it for all your future API Keys. Now, about the API Key itself, it comes with a Key ID and a certificate. Here’s a pro tip: you can only download the certificate right after creating it. My suggestion? Grab it right away and tuck it away in a safe spot. You never know when it might come in handy!

Here’s a crucial tidbit: the App Store API Key you generate grants access to all the applications in your account. Unfortunately, there’s a limitation – you can’t create a restricted API Key specific to just one application. It’s an all-or-nothing deal when it comes to access!
